Growing Peonies
Growing peonies is very easy to do. They require very little care, as long as the proper conditions are given. Peonies need full to partial sun in order to grow. Good drainage is needed to help prevent root rot, and peonies will thrive in a variety of soil and water conditions. Growing peonies is one of the most rewarding tasks that any gardener can accomplish.

Peonies are hardy in zones two through eight. When growing peonies, it is important to note that the plants require a fair amount of winter chill to bloom properly. The easiest way to propagate peonies in a garden is by division. Dividing one larger plant into several small plants should be done every few years or so. Peonies, when proper care is given, will live up to a hundred years or more.

The most important thing to note when growing peonies is their ability to survive on their own. Peonies come in many different colors, sizes and types. One of the most striking peonies for a garden is the fernleaf peony, which looks as beautiful as a rose and is much easier to grow.

Another important note when growing peonies is knowing when and how to cut the foliage. Foliage of a peony should be cut down almost to the ground in the fall. Leaving the foliage on as long as possible is a good idea, but it should be cut back shortly after the first frost. It should be noted that foliage should not be cut on tree peonies at all. More information about growing peonies can be found at any local nursery or garden center.
